There is a question Christel Buchanan put to a packed room at SuperAI that lingered long after she left the stage.

Would AI have ever written Sweet Caroline?

Probably not. Because the magic of that song is not complexity. It is not technical perfection, and it is certainly not an optimization curve. It is a name, a feeling, a pause, and a room full of strangers suddenly becoming one voice. No probability distribution produces that. No model, however capable, reaches for the improbable thing and protects it long enough for the world to fall in love with it.

That, in essence, was the heart of her keynote. And it arrived at the end of an argument she had been building, slide by slide, all afternoon.

The problem with abundant intelligence

Christel Buchanan, Founder and CEO of ChatAndBuild, opened on the idea at the centre of her work: lifemaxxing, not tokenmaxxing. AI, she argued, should not lock you into a screen day in and day out. It should hand you back your time so you can focus on what is actually important in life. The deeper question she kept returning to was what it means to stay deeply human in a world that chases the best benchmarks and the best tools.

But the talk quickly turned to a harder problem, one the industry is only beginning to name.

Intelligence has become abundant. Models can now generate competent work on almost any subject, instantly, for anyone. And that abundance has created an unexpected casualty: distinctiveness. When everyone has access to the same intelligence, the output starts to look the same. AI predicts what usually works. It reproduces the patterns that have worked before. It compresses a thousand references into one safe, plausible, average answer.

Christel called this "statistical taste", and she was blunt about its consequences. Everyone can now ship a seven out of ten. The work is competent, fast, and entirely forgettable. The only way to stand out is to reach a nine, and a nine is never a function of the model. It is a function of judgment, selection, specificity, and real perspective.

"AI can only generate what is probable. But taste is what protects and makes your work stand out. You have to find your Sweet Caroline in your AI movement, because if you don't, all of your AI outputs will be so generic, and not exciting."

The Living Brain as memory for discernment

The shift she described is a simple one to say and a hard one to build. Old AI asks and answers. ChatChat remembers, watches, coordinates, and acts.

From prompting to discernment

The most provocative section of the keynote was a framing of where AI is actually heading.

The first era of AI, Christel argued, rewarded generation. Could the model produce something? Could it respond? Could it sound intelligent? The second era rewarded optimization. Could it be more accurate, more structured, more reliable?

The era now beginning rewards something different entirely: discernment. Can the output reflect standards? Can it preserve taste? Can it reject the average? Can it become recognizably yours?

"In the prompting era, the question was whether AI could generate. In the discernment era, the question is whether you can encode what good looks like."

She made the case that as intelligence becomes abundant, human value does not disappear. It shifts. Routine work moves to AI. But judgment, ethics, taste, cross-domain curiosity, and trust become the enduring human core, the part no model can replicate, because it is built from lived experience rather than training data.

The killer use case, and the proof

To ground the philosophy in something tangible, Christel demonstrated the use case that has resonated most with early users: the Chief of Staff agent. A proactive agent that protects your energy by reading signals from WHOOP, Oura, Garmin, and your calendar, flags fatigue and overloaded days, turns meetings into follow-ups and task lists, and prepares the next move before you ask for it. It does not wait for a prompt. It watches what matters.

She closed the credibility loop by pointing to the company's growing ecosystem: a featured moment at OpenAI DevDay 2025, official customer stories with both Google Cloud and Anthropic, the NVIDIA Inception program, and the company's open work on Non-Fungible Agents, the trust and ownership layer for AI agents now spanning more than 213,000 active agents across twelve blockchains.

But Christel did not end on traction or architecture. She ended where the talk had been heading all along.

AI can generate what is probable. That is its gift and its limitation in a single sentence. Taste is what protects the improbable thing, the unexpected choice, the idea that should not work but does, long enough for the world to fall in love with it.

Her closing instruction to the room was not about prompts, or platforms, or models.

It was a fitting note to end on. In a field racing toward ever more capable intelligence, the most valuable thing in the room was a reminder that the improbable, the specific, and the deeply human are not problems for AI to solve. They are the entire point.

That idea did not stay on the stage. It followed the team to the ChatAndBuild booth, where it was tested in real time.
